Windows 98 and ACS 4

Are you wondering:
What if I want to use ACS 4 with Windows 98 - even though the system requirements clearly state I shouldn't.

Well, there are a few issues.

Installation

Before you run the install CD, add the following 3 lines to your AutoExec.Bat file on your C: drive.

Set ScreenAce=C:\Program Files\ACS\Ace\Exe
Set ScreenAceTemp=C:\Program Files\ACS\Ace\Temp
Set ScreenAceShared=C:\Program Files\ACS\Ace\Share

After you've saved that, you need to REBOOT your computer, before you run the install CD.

Opperation

Most things seem to work pretty well under windows 98... With a few exceptions. The known exceptions are:

• Company 99999 always shows up in company number ComboBoxes - it should not. Never select it. Otherwise you will be editing your default company for new companies.
• FlexGrid print function only prints the first page.

Summary

To summarize, we're not going back to fix these problems or other problems caused by Windows 98. Offically we don't support Windows 98 any longer (with Version 4), but people like to do strange things. And as long as they are doing strange things, the least we could do is document the errors you can expect with Windows 98. If you have an error due to Windows 98, be sure and let us know - if there is something simple we can do to fix it - we will... and if not - we'll document the problem, so that others know to expect it.
